Glen Rock WICS is a women’s organization supporting local charitable, educational and community services since 1982. WICS runs deep-rooted Glen Rock traditional events such as the annual town spelling bee and the town’s Halloween parade. WICS also teams with other charitable organizations, volunteering support and donations to worthy causes such as Meals on Wheels, Center for Food Action and American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life.
We mentor young volunteers through Kids in Community Service (KICS) and Teens Working in Community Service (TWICS). WICS is member of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs of GFWC. We meet monthly at the Glen Rock Municipal Annex at 678 S. Maple Avenue in Glen Rock, NJ.

The Glen Rock Women In Community Service (W.I.C.S.) – previously the Glen Rock Junior Women’s Club – originated in 1961 through the efforts of two women, Dorothy Graf and Rosemarie Ricciardi. They saw an important need for young women in town, particularly mothers with growing families, to connect with others in our community who share a common bond to encourage friendship and to promote interest in civic, social, and educational endeavors.
The charter membership of ‘Juniors’ was 15, and many friendships grew through the years. The primary focus, however, was community and social service, and it is still today – over 50 years later — the core ingredient of what brings so many different women together.
The name change occurred in 1993 (from ‘Juniors’ to ‘WICS’) due to a restriction of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs that women members in the ‘Junior’ organization be between 18 – 35 years old.
Although some of the Club’s programs and projects that began in the early years still continue today, there has been a wide assortment of programs that W.I.C.S. participates in – some consistent, and some varying from year to year. But, surprisingly enough – despite the climate of ‘changing times,’ especially with women working full-time along with raising a family–the need for a connection with other community-minded women remains a need and is evident more than ever. Today, our membership has grown three-fold since the time W.I.C.S was formed.
Throughout the year, W.I.C.S. offers numerous opportunities to be involved in both daytime and evening activities, many of which are deep-rooted, traditional events. Among them are the annual Halloween Parade for young children and their families (co-sponsored with the Chamber of Commerce), an annual blood drive held in cooperation with the Bergen County Blood Center, and food drives to support local area food pantries. Additionally, the organization’s members lend their support, talents and fundraising efforts to charities such as the Center for Food Action, Emmanuel Cancer Foundation, Meals On Wheels, and Shelter Our Sisters. W.I.C.S also sponsors the long-time Glen Rock Spelling Bee for 4th & 5th graders and serves as host for a highly popular raffle held in support of the annual Relay For Life of Glen Rock event.
We mentor young volunteers in two spin-off groups — KICS (Kids In Community Service) and TWICS (Teens Working In Community Service), which have been growing annually, offering community service projects for the younger generation.
W.I.C.S. is comprised of members of many ages, working full-time, part-time, or at home with children, married or single – all with the common bond of a generous spirit and the desire to give back to others in need. We meet monthly at the Glen Rock Municipal Annex at 678 South Maple Avenue in Glen Rock. We welcome new members who feel as we do … that “it is in giving that we receive.”
